The Ulysses Christmas Bureau was started over 60 years ago to enable needy children in the Trumansburg Central School District to receive new clothes and toys at Christmas. Today, it is an all-volunteer, tax-exempt, charitable organization. Although we are affiliated with the Ulysses Community Council and the United Way, we receive no funding from the United Way- we are simply neighbors helping neighbors.
We work with school nurses and others to identify needy families residing in the Trumansburg School District with children ages 0-18. We also recruit neighbors like you to help us provide a new outfit of clothing, hat, gloves or mittens, and 1-3 presents for each child. Community donations enable us to provide food for the whole family to help with the added expense of Christmas dinner and a week’s worth of breakfasts and lunches when school is out during the winter break.
The Holiday Fruit Basket Program of the Christmas Bureau is our community’s way of remembering our neighbors who can’t get out as much as they used to. Volunteers prepare and deliver a package of fresh fruit, homemade cookies, and holiday greetings.
Thanks again for helping make this a special Christmas for our needy neighbors!
